The members of the Board and the executive director of the Kosovo Manufacturing Club met with the Managing Director of the Energy Regulatory Office, Mr. Petrit Pepaj.

During the meeting they talked about the general situation of manufacturers in the country during the pandemic period, but also discussed the problems that manufacturers are facing with regular energy supply, especially recently.

The purpose of the meeting was to inform about the steps that ERO plans to take in opening the energy market in Kosovo, more precisely to create opportunities for consumers to enter the open market according to the principles and deadlines set out in the Law on Electricity.

The Manufacturing Club asked ERO to take all necessary legal actions to extend this deadline again until the creation of circumstances which would enable the liberalization of the electricity market. Given that in Kosovo the conditions for market liberalization have not yet been created where electricity supply is still provided by only one operator.

Thus, we may face a situation where commercial consumers face circumstances which reduce their bargaining power as consumers, thus potentially paying for electricity tariffs higher than the average regulated tariff.

This situation violates the principles of market economy with free competition, which is the basis of economic regulation of the Republic of Kosovo, and severely harms the consumer, especially the local manufacturer.
