Kosovo Manufacturing Club through this press release reacts to the controversial actions of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo in relation to decisions to take temporary protection measures against products that are imported to Kosovo from neighbouring countries.

KMC welcomed the Government’s decision to take temporary protective measures against dairy products from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but KMC argues that not implementing this decision for three months while pending clarification within the Government of the Republic of Kosovo- despite the existence of earlier practices has been harmful for local manufactures.
KMC also expresses its concern over the decision to withdraw temporary protection measures against many products of fruits and vegetables to neighbouring countries only a few days after the decision to apply these measures. The continuation of these measures for only seven products constitutes a minimal protection for local manufactures who are experiencing irreparable damages.

KMC considers that delaying or cancelling these decisions, they do not help Kosovo’s economic development. These actions do not reflect any seriousness to the development of local manufactures or to the continued effort to achieve the country’s trade balance.

KMC requests from the Government to address such economic issues with seriousness and decisions on temporary protection measures should not be changed or cancelled. Along with the Government’s duty to create new jobs, it is also the responsibility to maintain and to protect the existing jobs that are constantly at the risk of extinction.
