The Ministry of Economic Development organized today the ceremony of signing the Commercial Agreement for the construction of the Power Plant “Kosova e Re”, between Government of the Republic of Kosovo and Contour Global.
Kosovo Manufacturing Club- KMC supports the agreement because the security of energy supply is one of the main factors of economic development in the country and the basis for strengthening the production sector. KMC believes that the ‘Kosova e Re’ power plant will become a catalyst for economic development by providing sustainable electricity supplies, the lack of which has cost the local producers about 300 million euros a year. The realization of this project marks one of the most important steps towards fulfilling the goals of the state of Kosovo for the country’s energy independence and sustainable economic development.
The construction of this power plant is being done to give energy independence to Kosovo and to reduce the dependence on the unpredictable energy price on the regional market. Along with security in energy supply, the mission of the new power plant is to replace the old production units of “Kosova A”.
Present on the signing ceremony was the President- Hashim Thaci, Prime minister- Ramush Haradinaj, The US Ambassador- Greg Delawie, Minister of Economic Development- Valdrin Lluka, Executive Director of Countur Global- Joseph Brandt and other diplomatic representatives and representatives of state institutions.
After the signing of the financing agreement for the construction of the power plant “Kosova e Re”, the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Valdrin Lluka said that this agreement provides Kosovo’s energy independence. “This agreement has some specific criteria. It is a project that has an investment of 1.3 billion euros, which has an impact on economic development, as it will employ 10 thousand people, “the minister added.
The new power plant will begin to be built in 2018 and will be operational by 2023, will be built with the latest technology and will thus reflect the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, respectively will protect the environment.
